Out of Hours and House calls
Is someone on site out of hours?
Out of hours the duty staff are usually at home available, if paged, to deal with emergencies - Just ring the normal number 01625 850086 and your call will be answered 24/7/365.
In patients are assessed on an individual basis according to severity of the condition and an appropriate number of ward rounds during the night are made. This decision is made by the vet on call.
We do have an overnight room for staff to remain on site in the rare event it is required.
Out Of Hours - Home Visits
It is our normal practice procedure to see all emergency and out of hours cases at the clinic where all necessary equipment and medication are readily available.
In the vast majority of cases it is the most effective and time efficient method of delivering emergency care to the animal.
It will usually take less time to get the patient to the clinic, than the duty vet to to an unfamiliar address with appropriate equipment and medication. In many cases the Duty Vet will already be at the clinic tending to other patients.
Care should be taken when lifting larger animals, it is suggested that the animal be lifted either in his bed , or by sliding a blanket underneath the dog and getting assistance to lift each corner as a stretcher.
On the rare occasions the owner needs additional assistance to reach the clinic, then a local pet transport service is available.

It will be the owners responsibility to arrange details with the service.
The decision as to whether the animal is visited at home ultimately must remain with the vet, however the welfare of the animal must always be the deciding factor. Some patients may require a home visit in order to provide pain relief prior to movement of the patient to the clinic, or for euthanasia of the animal.
