What to do to take a pet abroad to an EU country
          1. Identichip
          2. Rabies vaccination [this must be done after the identichip]
          3. Have LVI fill in a Passport [this can be done at rabies vaccine]
          4. To fulfil previous import regulations into some countries we recommend that this is done at least 30 days before travelling.
          5. The pets passport is valid until a rabies booster is due [1year for cats and 2 years for dogs] but some EU countries require yearly boosters for rabies and the licence for vaccination is only 1 year if a dog is vaccinated outside the UK. Renewing the passport can be done by an LVI at the rabies booster.
          6. THIS PROCESS DOES NOT ALLOW THE PET TO RETURN TO THE UK.
What to do if you want to return to the UK.
          1. Identichip.
          2. Rabies vaccination
          3. Second rabies vaccination [this is optional but recommended after 2 weeks]
          4. Twenty one days after the last rabies vaccine a blood test is taken to measure the levels of rabies antibodies.
          5. If the antibody level is sufficient then a LVI can fill in a pets passport including the section on blood testing.
          6. The animal can be imported into the UK after 6months from the date the blood sample was taken.
          7. There is a section on the passport to record worming and tick treatment that must be done under the supervision of a registered vet within 48 hours previous to return to the UK.
          8. The passport can be used to return to the UK from some non-EU countries – it is recommended that this is checked with DEFRA before any travel arrangements are made.
